General Info

EMT - (Emergency Medical Technician)

The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This person possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Emergency medical technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Emergency medical technicians perform interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance or fire apparatus. The emergency medical technician is a link from the scene to the emergency health care system.

At Fire District 5, we offer a hybrid online model using a learning management system and online testing, as well as in-person hands on skills. The course is designed to teach you the lifesaving skills required to be a team member in and out of the hospital setting.

This course meets the Washington State Department of Health requirements for EMT certification. Course duration is approx. 3 months. Also, this is the first step in acquiring the Paramedic certification.

*Graduates of this program will be eligible to take the National Registry EMT certification examination.
